Congratulations on your purchase!

Install the parts in the order below. Then press POWER.

  1. THE MAIN BOARD (large, green). Put this in the case first. It is the floor everything else stands on.
  2. THE BRAIN (small ceramic chip with gold legs). Slots into its square home on the board.
  3. THE HEATSINK (silver block with fins + fan). Mounts right above the BRAIN. The CPU cooks without it.
  4. THE MEMORY (long thin board with eight chips). Slides into the long thin slot.
  5. THE POWER SUPPLY (heavy metal box with a fan). Goes in its bay at the top of the case.
  6. THE 24-PIN POWER (rainbow ribbon, white connector). Connects the PSU to the board. Plug it into the white header on the board.
  7. THE POWER CABLE (black wall cord, IEC plug). Goes into the AC socket on the back of the case.
  8. ADD-ON CARDS (graphics, sound). Each slides into one of the two long slots at the bottom of the board.
  9. THE DISK DRIVE (beige bezel with a slot). Snaps into the drive bay at the front. Without it you can’t run FLOPPY.EXE.
⚠ Parts dislike being shoved in the wrong place. THREE wrong tries and a normal part FRIES. HIGH-VOLTAGE parts (POWER SUPPLY, MOBO POWER, POWER CABLE) only get TWO tries — wrong slot and they ARC. Wrong slot twice and they EXPLODE. Stand back.
